Are you lookin for some interesting ways to keep your pie looking fancy? If you have a little pie crust left over, flatten it out, then cut out small shapes like stars, or leaves and nuts for a fall pie. Use a cookie or pastry cutter if you have one, otherwise you'll have to rough it with a knife.
Use a pairing knife to gently give the shapes small details like veins on the leaves. You just use the tips to score them.
Beat one egg and a small amount of water in a small bowl to the side and use a brush to gently apply the eggwash to the shapes. Bake them at 425 degrees for 7-15 minutes depending on the size of your decorations. Just add on top of the baked pie and arrange as you see fit.
This tip also works great for cutting decorative vent holes. Cut out the shapes in the middle, then use the cutouts to line the outer edge o the pie for a cool effect.
Another cool pie tip is to take your pie crust and cut it into small diamond shapes. Use a ruler to make sure they look symmetrical and also plan ahead and make extra dough. Now you just have to shingle them on the pie so it looks like a nice, layered, spiral pattern.
Now get out there and make those pies look festive!
